Nokia wins patent dispute against Daimler
Nokia has secured an injunction against Daimler, the owner of Mercedes.
German courts found that Daimler has infringed Nokia’s mobile-technology patents by using Nokia’s technologies without authorisation.
The ruling allows Nokia to stop Daimler from selling Mercedes cars in Germany. However, this means Nokia will have to show hefty collateral of 7 billion euros.
Extensions on evictions ban and notice periods
Recently, the government announced that the ban on evictions will be extended for another 4 weeks and that the new notice periods will be in place until at least 31 March 2021.
Prior to the pandemic, the normal eviction notice was two months.
This extension is intended to give tenants greater protection from eviction.
However, the National Residential Landlords Association criticised it and said that the “blanket extension is unacceptable, especially so close to the deadline. This announcement satisfies no-one.”
£51million boost for the criminal legal aid sector
Following a consultation earlier this year, the government responded by allocating up to £51 million for criminal legal aid.
The boost will address the increasing time and effort involved when preparing for cases.
Chair of the Bar Council, Amanda Pinto QC, said: “This money is desperately needed and long overdue for criminal legal aid barristers, who do crucial work in the public interest and, having been badly hit by years of cuts, have suffered drastic loss of work during the pandemic.”
An independent review of the criminal legal aid market will be launched later this year to assess working practices and incentives.
